New costumes for Hunger Games movie

On Thursday fans were thrilled to finally see the first images of the parade costumes belonging to the “Hunger Games” characters Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson). The images were taken just before the girl from District 12 becomes the Girl on Fire. The fans of the novels written by Suzanne Collins are aware that the costumes are meant to reflect the coal-mining community.

"This is one of those moments where Cinna's character syncs up with the creativity of our costume designer Judianna Makovsky," director Garry Ross told EW.

Fans are slowly introduced to Makovsky's whole array of "Hunger Games" looks. The Oscar nominee is a well known Hollywood veteran who has more than 30 years of experience. The designer is known for creating costumes for many well-known cinematic projects. In the beginning, at projects such as "The Cotton Club" and "Dick Tracy," she was merely a wardrobe assistant. However, soon afterward she became a master in her own right creating costumes for Tom Hanks' "Big" and "The Quick and the Dead." In 1999 she earned an Oscar nomination for "Pleasantville," a movie that had Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon as the two main stars. Makovsky also dressed Harry, Ron and Hermione in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". Her latest projects had been "National Treasure," "The Last Airbender" and "X-Men: The Last Stand".

Now, she had signed once again with Ross for the “Hunger Games.” Already we were able to see some of her costumes in the trailer of the movie. We cannot help but wonder whether another Oscar nomination is waiting for her.
