Harry Reid - rant in Congress
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid started ranting against the Republicans in the Congress on Sunday. When he appeared on NBC's Meet the Press, Reid stated angry that the party was guilty of "obstructionism on steroids."
"Mitch McConnell said his number one goal at the beginning of this Congress was to defeat President Obama, not have him reelected. And that's how they've legislated. We've spent months on things that used to happen just matter-of-factly -- raising the debt ceiling," Reid said. "I would hope the two Republican leaders have learned from what took place in the previous year," he added. "I would hope that they understand that everything doesn't have to be a fight."
The majority leader added that the Tea Party is actually annoying Republicans and driving them "right over the cliff." He also added he believes the movement is dying out.
He also stated he believed the battle between partisans in actually extending the payroll tax credit. As a result he believes it is a "disaster" for Republicans who worked hard, though unsuccessfully to block the tax cut. "Can you imagine, Republicans, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, were opposed to lowering taxes?" asked Reid.
On the other hand, the man did not have only negative messages. Reid pointed out that the legislation had managed to achieve many things in the year that passed, adding that "we had the most productive Congress in the history of Congress." He has high hopes for 2012 and the developments that will be made.
