Interview with Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey found out that the way to steal the heart of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was to steal doughnuts with him. In an interview he gave to the talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey which is due to air in the weekend, the governor explained he had found his soul mate in the person of Mary Pat, his wife, when she suggested the idea of an ” illicit late-night doughnut run.”
The two also talked about how hard it was mingling in politics. The Associated Press managed to get their hands on a full transcript of the interview. The whole thing lasted an hour and was filmed at the Christie’s home in Mendham. The interview will be aired on Sunday at 9 p.m. on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
When the governor was asked what caught his attention when looking at Mary Pat when he met her at the University of Delaware, he said it was her independence, her faith and the fact she was fun.
“She was fun in a different way than I’d ever experienced with anybody I’d ever dated. She was very spontaneous,” Christie told Winfrey.
“Spontaneous like?” Winfrey asked.
“Let’s go break into the kitchen in the dining hall at college because we smell that they are baking doughnuts for the next morning,” he recalled Mary Pat telling him. “So let’s sneak in and steal some of the doughnuts now.”
The two also talked about how it was being joked at by David Letterman.
“It didn’t bother you?” Winfrey asked. “Because let me tell you, when David Letterman was making jokes about me, it bothered me.”
“I think I was girded for it, Oprah, I really do,” Christie said.
