Rick Perry continues campaign
Rick Perry announced he had no immediate plans to terminate his campaigning, even after he ended on a crushing fifth place in the Iowa caucuses. However, the Texas governor announced he was taking a brief hiatus in order to reassess the matter.
“This wasn’t a hard decision,” Perry told reporters earlier today. “This is a quirky place and a quirky process to say the least, and we’re going to go into places where they have actual primaries and there are going to be real Republicans voting.”
The 61 year old governor made heavy investments in the Hawkeye state. He bought about $4 million in advertising in Iowa. Moreover he had more than 500 volunteers from 30 states infiltrate the state before the caucuses.
“Not that there aren’t real Republicans here in Iowa,” Perry added. “But the fact is it was a pretty loosey-goosey process, and you had a lot of people who were there that admitted they were Democrats voting in the caucuses last night, so we’re going.”
Entrance polls showed there were more independents than usual. This trend benefited libertarians like Ron Paul, but hurt conservative candidates like Perry. Perry announced he had made his decision while in Raccoon Creek Park this morning.
Using Twitter, the candidate hinted at his decision: ”Here we come South Carolina.”
The governor is probably going to New Hampshire in order to take part at the debates that will occur this weekend. Despite spending most of his money in Iowa, he got only 10 percent of the vote recorded in the Hawkeye state.
