Johnny Weir married on New Year's Eve
Johnny Weir, the three-time U.S. skating champion used to avoid any questions pertaining to his sexuality. However, now the famous skater stepped in 2012 a happy man. He married his boyfriend, Atlanta lawyer Viktor Voronov in New York on New Year's Eve.
Weir had been providing hints leaving all kinds of clues on Twitter. He called Voronov the "newest member" of his family on Christmas Day and added: "Its cold, dark and very early, but something wonderful is afoot" on Dec. 30.
Finally, on New Year's Eve, Weir exclaimed, "I'm married!" and also added a few details: "Wedding in summer! But all the official stuff is done now! No more livin' in sin!"
On Tuesday, Weir wrote another tweet in which he announced the honeymoon would take place in Punta Cana: "Thank you to everyone for your well wishes to me and@vitya_zvesda! It means a lot to have your blessings! Mama loves you!"
Weir used to say that he wanted people to see him “for who I am, not what I am." However, last January in his autobiography, “Welcome to My World”, the skater revealed the mystery surrounding his sexual orientation.
“I am so happy to have found my match,” the U.S. skating champion said in a statement. “Marrying Victor has been the greatest moment in my life and I will work very hard to make him proud and happy.”
Weir was last seen in a competition at the Vancouver Olympics where he placed sixth. He announced that he might return for the 2014 Sochi Games in Russia.
