Jonathan Ive receives knighthood award
Apple’s senior vice president of Industrial Design, Jonathan Ive was awarded a knighthood this year in the New Year Honours list. On Saturday BBC revealed that Ive can now style himself after Sir Jonathan who was made Knight Commander of the British Empire. The award was given for "services to design and enterprise". Ive stated he felt "both humbled and sincerely grateful".
“I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the UK of designing and making,'' Ive said in a statement he released today, according to the Silicon Valley Mercury News reported. "To be recognized with this honor is absolutely thrilling and I am both humbled and sincerely grateful. I discovered at an early age that all I've ever wanted to do is design. I feel enormously fortunate that I continue to be able to design and make products with a truly remarkable group of people here at Apple."
Ive is the leader of the design team who came up with several iconic Apple products such as the iPod, iPhone and iPad. He often revealed that he likes to care for the smallest design details. The man is known for having set new standards in the industrial design.
It is not the first time his merits have been recognized. In 2005 he was made Commander of the British Empire.
It is known that Apple’s products have been added to the permanent collections of museums worldwide. The award Ive received helped build up the excitement and anticipation regarding the upcoming iPhone 5.
