First Wimbledon title for Djokovic
The Wimbledon championship came to an end with Novak Djokovic’s stellar win against Rafael Nadal. The match that took place on Sunday was won by the Serbian tennis player with 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. During this year, Djokovic was mostly undefeatable, losing only once in the French Open. As a result of this championship the tennis player not only won his third major title, but also became the No. 1 tennis player in the world.
The Sunday match was mostly dominated by the Serbian tennis player who had an almost impenetrable game in the first two sets. In the 10th game he broke Nadal using a forehand return and was later in complete control of the second set. The third set proved to be rocky for him; however he managed to steady himself in the fourth where he managed the decisive break. After another set of groundstrokes, in the eighth game of the final round, Rafael Nadal sent a long backhand which ended the game.
"It's hard to describe this except, the best day of my life, the tournament I always dreamed of winning, the first tournament I watched in my life," Djokovic said. "I had to be on top of my game and I think I played the best match on grasscourts ever. A couple of good days at the office."
The match proved to be distressing for Nadal who, for the first time, lost in a Grand Slam final to someone else than Roger Federer.
"I can imagine how Novak feels today," said Nadal, after the match "Today, one player played better than me."
